About Lavaca

Lavaca San Antonio is best known for its convenience to downtown San Antonio, its affordability, and its historical quality.
Lavaca is bordered by Durango Boulevard to the north, South St. Mary’s Street to the west and Interstate Highway 37 to the Missouri-Kansas Railroad Line to the south.

Lavaca is one of the oldest, intact neighborhoods in San Antonio, with some homes dating back to the 19th century. It is part of the King William District and the Southtown area.

Those who worked for the wealthy oilmen of King William and Monte Vista settled in Lavaca and built modest homes. Most of these homes were later abandoned because of the building of Victoria Courts public housing. Victoria Courts were a source of crime, drugs and poverty that had a profound impact on Lavaca.
The city of San Antonio, through the Southtown initiative, has begun to revitalize Lavaca, which included the demolition of Victoria Courts.

Southtown is a community-based, economic development organization, which was formed to revitalize the corridors of South Alamo, South St. Mary’s and South Presa Streets, as well as the King William, Lavaca and Blue Star neighborhoods. Southtown is designed to revitalize and reclaim these once run-down areas and bring commerce and jobs to the residents of these areas.

Lavaca is now poised to become a fine example of a revitalized city with a successful, mixed income housing community.

Lavaca real estate is experiencing steady growth, with average Lavaca homes for sale reaching $188,500. Many Lavaca homes now hover at around $200 per square foot.

Commute

Residents of Lavaca San Antonio enjoy a short commute in and out of the city, with the commute from Lavaca to downtown consisting of a 20-minute walk or short car ride.

Schools: Elementary schools include Bonham Elementary, David G. Burnett Elementary and Robert B. Green Elementary. Lavaca’s middle school is Page Middle School and the high school is Brackenridge.
