New Braunfels San Antonio is a thriving, German-Texas community, which is best known for its cold spring river which runs through the city.

Located in Comal and Guadalupe counties in the San Antonio Metropolitan Area, New Braunfels means “brown rock” in German. As of 2007, the population of New Braunfels San Antonio was 51,066. It is the seat of Comal County.
New Braunfels is located at the intersection of Interstate Highway 35 and Farm Road 725, where the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers converge. It is 30 miles northeast of San Antonio and 45 miles southwest of Austin, near the southeastern border of the county.

New Braunfels San Antonio was founded in 1845 by German settlers, and is still alive with old world heritage and a strong, German-Texas community.
New Braunfels has become famous for the cold springs river, which often attracts visitors looking to tube down the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers. New Braunfels is also home to one of the most famous water parks in the United States, Schlitterbahn Water Park Resort.

The Gruene Historical District, which is located within New Braunfels’ city limits, has historic structures, old homes, stores, an art gallery, a winery, an ice cream parlor and a rustic beer hall. It was purchased in the mid 1970s and subsequently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is now a popular attraction in New Braunfels.

Other local sites include museums, performing arts centers, the Natural Bridge Caverns and the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch.
