Southtown San Antonio is a truly unique neighborhood which consists of a beautiful array of old and new – historic houses, converted warehouses, modern art galleries and newly built arts complexes all blend beautifully into this community of three, diverse neighborhoods.

Located just south of downtown San Antonio, in the Central Loop, Southtown San Antonio is a community-based economic development organization which was originally formed in 1991 to revitalize the areas of South Alamo, South St. Mary’s and South Presa Streets, as well as the King William, Lavaca and Blue Star neighborhoods.

Southtown is now an all-encompassing term for the areas located south of downtown San Antonio, which includes King William, the Blue Star Arts Complex and Lavaca. This area has become San Antonio’s Arts District, and it is part of the City of San Antonio’s Urban Main Street Program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Visitors often flock to Southtown for its eclectic blend of shops, galleries and restaurants, its historic sites and its cultural hotspots. It is also one of the busiest spots for First Friday celebrations in the downtown area.

One of the most famous attractions in Southtown is the Blue Star Arts Complex, which includes a brewery, art space, a performance company and multiple art galleries. El Sol Studios is also a popular art space which showcases the work of the some of the finest artists in the area.

Southtown real estate tends to be quite expensive because of the Victorian mansions of King William. Less expensive Southtown homes for sale can usually be found in Lavaca, although many homes have been turned into shops and restaurants. The average home price in Southtown is $599,000.

Commute

The commute from Southtown to downtown is envied by many in other areas of San Antonio. Just minutes to downtown and River Walk, via the Blue Trolley, residents of Southtown enjoy an easy, hassle-free commute.
